DeptfordFolk: the park user group for Deptford Park & Folkestone Gardens in Deptford SE8
Improving and enhancing our parks and the routes people use to get there.
DeptfordFolk's aim is to enhance, improve and promote local parks. We want to make sure people can get to parks and green spaces safely. We look beyond the boundaries of the parks and assess accessibility and safety in the surrounding streets. We look for opportunities to better streetscapes, better amenities and improved public realm. School routes and the accessibility and safety of routes between parks in North Deptford need to be improved. The Liveable Neighbourhoods funding, alongside other DeptfordFolk projects will make positive changes to the public realm.
As plans develop there will be consultations with residents and park users. Please sign up to the mailing list to stay updated.
"Our new Liveable Neighbourhood scheme will see millions of pounds invested in schemes that will directly make walking and cycling a safe, enjoyable and convenient option for many more Londoners - supporting small businesses by making our high streets cleaner, safer and more enjoyable places to spend time"
Sadiq Khan - Mayor of London
DeptfordFolk worked with London Borough of Lewisham Highways and Walking/Cycling Charity Sustrans to redesign Rolt Street on the South Side of Folkestone Gardens. Currently a rat-run and school route with no safe crossing the road is also used for free parking. The community led redesign involved surveying park users, a collaborative design session and a plan for the future of Rolt Street. The project was shortlisted for a 2017 Mayor of London Healthy Streets award. The positive working relationship that developed with LB Lewisham and Sustrans led to the successful £2.9million Liveable Neighbourhoods bid
